Rotation
Updated on Tuesday 03 November 2026
A queue of professionals for clients with no preference: with "Anyone", the client goes to the first free person in line, who moves to the end.
The rotation shares out the clients who don’t ask for anyone in particular. Each professional joins the day’s queue when they arrive, and a client who says “anyone” goes to the first person in the queue who is free. That person moves to the end, and the next one is now first. It is made for barbershops and salons that pay on commission, where “whose turn is it?” comes up every day.
Turn it on for a location
- Go to Locations in the side menu and tap Edit on the location.
- Under Rotation, choose:
- One queue: a single queue for every service.
- One queue per category: each service category has its own queue. A barber’s place in “Beard” doesn’t change their place in “Haircut”. A booking uses the queue of its first service’s category.
- Off: as always, no queue.
- Save.
From then on Rotation shows in the dashboard menu and in the agenda of each professional at that location.
How each professional joins the queue
The queue starts empty every morning. Each professional joins when they arrive:
- From their agenda: under Rotation, they tap Available. They see their place (“Your place: 2 of 3”) and when they are next.
- From the front desk: under Rotation in the dashboard, Add to the queue next to their name.
The order is the order of arrival: whoever joins first is first in the queue. Someone who joins at 14:00 lines up behind everyone who was already waiting, not ahead of them.
Breaks and leaving the queue
- On a break (from their agenda) or Break (from the front desk): for lunch or a while away. While on a break the queue skips them, and they keep their place: when they tap Available again, they are where they were.
- Remove (front desk only): out of today’s queue. If they join again, they join at the end.
Whose turn it is
When the front desk books with Anyone (in the quick form, the full form, by phone, or when serving someone from the walk-in queue), Citauno gives the client to the first person in the queue who is free at that time for those services:
- That person moves to the end of the queue.
- If the first person is busy at that time, the client goes to the next free one, and the busy person keeps their place.
- If nobody in the queue is free, or the queue is empty, the client goes to anyone free, as always.
If you pick a professional by name, the client goes to that person and the queue doesn’t move: it is the client’s preference, not a turn. The exception is the person marked Next (see below): keeping them picked gives them their turn.
Two bookings saved at the same moment never take the same turn: the second one sees that the first person has already moved to the end, and goes to the next.
“Next” in the booking forms
In the calendar’s quick form and in the full New booking form, the first person in the queue carries a Next label and is already picked. Above the professionals it says, for example, “Rotation: Diego is next”.
- If you keep them picked and save, the booking is their turn: Diego moves to the end of the queue.
- If you pick someone else, the booking goes to that person as a preference, and Diego keeps his turn. If you pick Anyone, the booking goes to the first free person in the queue, as always.
- Opening the form gives nobody a turn. Only saving does.
In the quick form, Next is the first person in the queue who is free at that time. In the full form the time is picked after the professional, so Next is the first person in the queue, and the times you see are theirs. At a location with one queue per category, Next shows up in the quick form once you tick a service, and in the full form when you open it with the service already chosen (for example, with Open full form from the quick one).
If someone else at reception gave Diego his turn while you were filling in the booking, saving tells you “The turn moved…”, names who is next now and picks them. You check and save again. That way nobody gets two clients in a row because a form was left open.
When you open the quick form from a professional’s column in the day view, that professional is picked. Next still shows on the first person in the queue.
Serving someone from the walk-in queue
With the walk-in queue and the rotation both on, when you tap Serve on someone who didn’t ask for anyone, the option picked is By rotation: Diego: the first person in the queue who is free now, with the Next label beside their name. When you tap Start now, the client goes to whoever is first and free at that moment, and that person moves to the end.
If the client asked for someone in particular and that person is free, the option picked is that person.
The Rotation screen
Under Rotation (dashboard menu, Schedule section) the front desk sees, for each location with the queue on:
- In the queue: today’s order, with Next on the first person available, On a break on anyone who stepped out, and how many turns each person has had today.
- Not in the queue: the rest of the team at that location, each with Add to the queue.
With one queue per category, you choose at the top which queue to see.
Bookings from your page with no preference
When a client books from your page with Anyone, Citauno gives the booking to someone free at that time among those who charge least for those services, so the price the client saw doesn’t change. Among them, you choose the rule in Settings → Public visibility → “Anyone” on your booking page:
- Random (the default): any of them.
- Least booked that day: whoever has the fewest bookings on the booking’s day, across all locations. Cancelled ones don’t count. On a tie, at random.
- By rotation: for a booking made for today, the first free person in the location’s queue, who moves to the end, just like an Anyone from the front desk. The queue forms each day with whoever arrives, so a booking for another day, or one for today with nobody free in the queue or at a location without the rotation, goes to the least booked that day.
The rule is for your page only. At the front desk, Anyone uses the queue when the location has the rotation on, and otherwise goes at random.
By rotation in Bookings and Commissions
Every booking keeps how it got its professional. In Bookings, the Assignment filter shows:
- By rotation: the ones given out by the queue.
- No preference: every one where the client chose nobody (by rotation, at random or least booked).
- Professional chosen: the ones that went to a person chosen by name.
Export downloads the list with that filter.
In Commissions, below the report, Clients with no preference shows, per professional, how many bookings in the period they got without the client choosing them, how many of those By rotation, and how many where the client Chose them. It counts the period’s bookings at every location, or at the one you pick under Location, completed ones and no-shows included; cancelled ones don’t count. Bookings from before November 2026, when Citauno started recording the assignment, don’t count.
What it doesn’t do (yet)
- Moving a booking to another time gives nobody a turn: it is the same client.
- A visit entered afterwards (with a past date) doesn’t count as a turn.
